Intrasquad Meets

ASA sponsors occasional intrasquad meets (a.k.a. "Mock Meets") to help the team gain experience with a competitive meet format.  These meets take place at the Truman Natatorium and are managed by ASA coaches and parent volunteers.  They typically last for only 2 hours and are a great way for swimmers to get more comfortable with race format, starting blocks, and a competitive pool environment.

  • Timers - Parents run the stopwatches and act as timers for the swimmers.  We try to have two timers assigned to each lane.  Timers will be given an index card at the beginning of each heat on which to write the times.
  • Starter - The starter is the person who will announce the events, make sure the swimmers are on their marks, and then start each event.  This person also acts as an informal emcee and host for the session, making sure parents and swimmers know what is going on during the session.
  • Bull Pen Organizers - This group keeps things moving by having the competitors for upcoming events ready to go when it is their turn.  For the inter-squad meets this is relatively easy, but it is good experience for actual meets which can be fairly fast paced.
