Insurance & Swim Meets

Following is a brief overview of when your swimmer's excess coverage (through USA Swimming) is in effect and when it is not:

  • It IS in effect whenever your swimmer attends a USA "sanctioned" meet (WITH or WITHOUT a coach).
  • It IS in effect whenever your swimmer attends a USA "approved" meet or a non-USA meet WITH a coach.
  • It IS NOT in effect whenever your swimmer attends a USA "approved" meet or a non-USA meet WITHOUT a coach.

  • A sanctioned meet is strictly limited to USA Swimming participants, is hosted by a USA team, and is run by USA certified officials.  Swimmers may attend these meets without a coach, if desired.
  • An approved meet allows non-USA participants, but is run strictly by USA certified officials.
  • A non-USA meet allows non-USA participants, and may or may not be run according to USA rules.  Some examples would include YMCA meets and the River Country Summer League.  (YMCA Swimming, however, has adopted the technical rules of USA Swimming and runs meets accordingly.)

Any meets identified by the Aquadogs as "USA meets" are USA sanctioned meets. All others are non-USA meets, so a coach must be present at the meet for your swimmer's USA Swimming excess medical insurance (and our team's excess liability coverage) to be in effect. Our team has a policy that a minimum of 5 swimmers must be registered for a meet in order for ASA to send a coach. Thus, to ensure our team's liability coverage is always in effect, in the event there are fewer than 5 swimmers registered for any non-USA or USA "approved" meet, we will cancel our team's participation in the meet.

Note on the "Missouri Show Me Games":  This annual summer meet is unique, in that swimmers register themselves independently - not as part of our team. Thus, a swimmer's USA excess medical insurance will not be in effect at this meet.
