Newsletter - August 2011

Hello Swimming Families!

We've had a great summer of swimming. We held our first home meet which was a tremendous success! Thank you to ALL of the many parent volunteers, and our older swimmers, that worked so hard before, during and after the meet. Thanks also to Robin Harden and her great staff at the Kirksville Aquatic Center! Thanks to all of your help everything went very smoothly. It was a great day! Look for photos and a news story to pop up in local media soon! We had 41 swimmers from Kirksville, Centerville and Ottumwa participate in 71 events. WOW!

And now that we really know how to do it? We can do it again!

We will have a parents' meeting on Thursday, September 1 at 7pm. We will meet in the lobby of the Aquatic Center, and then move over to the shelter on the east side of the parking lot to meet. I anticipate our new coaches will be with us to introduce themselves, and answer questions. It's very hard to say goodbye to Coaches Corey and Stephanie - but we wish them all the best as they move on to new and exciting opportunities. They were terrific, and I know my kids aren't the only ones very attached to them.

Yes! Yes! We are hiring new coaches, and our pool of potential coaches is a great! I hope to send you a second newsletter after our upcoming board meeting next Monday with more information. I'll just say that as we are interviewing we are looking for coaches that can inspire our kids with a love of swimming. We want our kids to have the best, most fun time, and also give them opportunities to really stretch themselves. Most of our kids swim for the joy of it. That is so important! We also have a small group of swimmers that really want to push themselves and see how far they can go. I hope to have some good news for them as well. More soon!

Right now we anticipate beginning practices on Monday August 29. Please see the practice schedule on the website. We are not anticipating any changes in the short term, but as we move into the year we will evaluate whether or not these times are meeting our swimmers' needs. Please feel free to send me some feedback.

It's time to register our swimmers for a new season, and the forms are available for you to download and print here: http://www.asaaquadogs.com/Home/join-asa

Our club fees have stayed the same, but the USA swim fee has gone up to $55 per swimmer. If you have any question about how much each swimmer will cost to register, or how to figure your total with the multiple swimmer discount - please give me a call, or drop me an e-mail. I know it was confusing to me last year.

If each family prints their own forms it saves our club a tidy sum in printing costs. However, I will leave a few hard copy packets at the pool for your convenience. I will print more only if I need to....

Please fill out the forms and get them back to me no later than September 15, with your fees. You may leave them at the main desk at the Aquatic Center, and I will pick them up.

Please note: if you are a NEW swimmer coming to practice on August 29 - you must at least turn in the safety and emergency contact pages to the coach the first day you swim. If you are a RETURNING swimmer and you have NEW EMERGENCY contact information - you must give it to the coach the first day you practice. Otherwise - the packet and fees are ultimately due no later than September 15. Earlier would be better - but we understand life is complicated.

Safety first!

Please send me your questions. If I don't know the answer I know where to find out the answer.

Happy summer break - and see you all in a few weeks!
